I left Kununurra on June 11 so I've been travelling along the Gibb River Road in the Kimberleys in north Western Australia, with several great side trips, for over a month now. I'm really enjoying the slow pace and spending more time camping in some top spots and getting the feel of the country and the wildlife. I hope some of my photos have done some justice to this very special part of the world. My camp spots have been: Pentecost River (bush camp for several nights) saw a Saltwater croc in the river, so no swimming here Durack River (bush camp for several nights) No swimming here either Miners Pool off the Kulumburu Road (great swimming) King Edward River for four nights (in total) great rocks, great swimming, and a small waterfall Mitchell Falls for two nights ... stunning waterfalls and a great bush walk Honeymoon Bay at Kulumburu for 8 nights. Camped on the beach, swam daily keeping a good lookout for crocs, and picked huge oysters off the rocks in the next bay. Ate most of them right then and there. Gibb River for a night. Early the next morning, while I lay abed, another camper on the other side of the river played a few classics on his trumpet (Summertime, Over the Rainbow etc.) and he was very, very good! What a a way to wake up!! Manning Gorge (for two nights) ... camped on a raise overlooking the Manning River and the gallery of paper bark trees that grow in the shallows and along the banks Bush camp near Galvans Gorge and visited the waterfall there very early the next morning Mornington Wilderness Camp for 5 nights. This has been a highlight for me with the birds and gorges within easy driving of the camp. Saddler Creek (bush camp) for one night I've taken hundreds of photos but I won't be able to post many until I get to Derby or Broome. Meantime I have just a few to show you all.
